Hope After Radio Silence

The past few years have enveloped so many with anxieties surrounding change, uncertainty, and purpose. Reasonably so. A devastating pandemic. A surge of global activism surrounding race, inequality, and human rights. Millions of lives have been at stake. And despite abounding displays of solidarity and compassion, there have still yet been expressions of hostile reaction. Consequently, not only have we been hurting physically and mentally, but as a community of human beings too. The impulse to reject and neglect our common humanities – to look inwards, rather than outwards – has remained pervasive. All this overlays the most basic impulses we humans all do seem to share: an innate curiosity of who we are, what our purposes are, how we fit into this broader canvas of life. We can all likely recall distinct, almost-sublime moments when we confronted these terrifyingly beautiful questions. And despite not always knowing the answers, we humans have a lovely tendency to still try and do the best we can anyways. “Hope After Radio Silence” describes one of these rousing moments, and what possible fundamental answers we could derive together – despite the loud silence of the mysterious universe that could instead leave us lost alone.
