And despite abounding displays of solidarity and compassion, there have still yet been expressions of hostile reaction. Consequently, not only have we been hurting physically and mentally, but as a community of human beings too. The impulse to reject and neglect our common humanities – to look inwards, rather than outwards – has remained pervasive.\n\nAll this overlays the most basic impulses we humans all do seem to share: an innate curiosity of who we are, what our purposes are, how we fit into this broader canvas of life. We can all likely recall distinct, almost-sublime moments when we confronted these terrifyingly beautiful questions.
